Strategic Partnership: Safeguarding Jamaica’s Tourism Future

In a recent parliamentary update, The Honourable Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, shed light on the state of the country’s tourism industry, highlighting strategic partnerships and exciting developments that are propelling Jamaica to the forefront of the global tourism stage. In this edition, we revisit his insights and look forward to the exciting developments that lie ahead.

Central to Jamaica’s tourism success story are the strategic partnerships forged with key stakeholders in the industry. By combining resources, expanding market reach, and fostering synergies, these collaborations have catalyzed unprecedented growth and innovation. From airlines to travel agencies and hotel chains, our partnerships have played a pivotal role in promoting Brand Jamaica on the global stage.

International Market Blitzes

Throughout 2023, Jamaica embarked on several international market blitzes aimed at boosting demand for Brand Jamaica and expanding airlift. Missions to Argentina, Chile, and Peru targeted the lucrative South American visitor market, with a goal of welcoming 250,000 visitors from this region over the next five years.

Another significant blitz focused on Eastern Europe, coinciding with the staging of the 19th World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Minister Bartlett engaged with over 50 tour operators, travel agents, and media representatives to promote Jamaica in countries such as Poland, Georgia, Serbia, and Bulgaria.

In Canada, Jamaica launched its newest luxury market promotion, “Come Back to Luxurious Jamaica,” in collaboration with top ultra-luxury agencies. The United Kingdom remains a priority market, with Jamaica now ranking as the number one destination for British visitors to the Caribbean.

Airlift Commitments

The 2023/24 winter season is shaping up positively, with commitments from several airlines to increase airlift to Jamaica. Notable additions include new flights from Canada Jetlines, Flair, Frontier Airlines, Norse Atlantic Airways, LATAM Airlines, and Southwest Airlines.

A record 1.05 million airline seats have been secured from nearly 6,000 flights originating from the United States for the winter season, representing a 13% increase over the previous year.

Investor Confidence and Development Projects

Investor confidence in Destination Jamaica remains strong, with significant developments on the horizon. The country is on track to add 20,000 new rooms over the next 10 to 15 years, including 2,000 new rooms in 2024 alone.

Exciting projects include the debut of the Princess Grand Jamaica, Riu Palace Aquarelle, and Unico Hotel in Montego Bay. Additionally, renowned international hotel group Lopesan has announced plans to develop a 1,000-room luxury resort on the island, further bolstering Jamaica’s tourism infrastructure.

Visitor Safety

Amidst these developments, TPDCo has relaunched the “Treat Our Visitors Right” campaign as part of its commitment to ensuring visitors’ safety and satisfaction. Through this campaign, TPDCo emphasizes the importance of providing exceptional hospitality to every visitor, fostering a welcoming and secure environment for all.

As Jamaica continues to attract investment and expand its tourism offerings, the “Treat Our Visitors Right” campaign serves as a reminder of the critical role each individual plays in maintaining Jamaica’s reputation as a premier tourism destination. By upholding high standards of service and prioritizing visitor safety, we not only enhance the overall tourism experience but also strengthen Jamaica’s position as a global leader in hospitality.

Looking ahead, the success of Jamaica’s tourism industry will depend on its ability to maintain high standards of safety, service, and sustainability. With a steadfast commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence, we are well-positioned to unlock our nation’s full tourism potential.
