Miss Universe Jamaica 2024, Rachel Silvera, made a special courtesy call at the Tourism Product Development Company Limited (TPDCo.) on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The visit marked an important moment in Miss Silvera’s journey as she prepares to represent Jamaica on the global stage in Mexico this November.
Miss Silvera, a native of St. Mary with a passion for environmental sustainability, was warmly welcomed by TPDCo.’s Executive Director, Mr. Wade Mars, who expressed his admiration for her dedication to community development through her organization, Footprints Jamaica. Her initiative, which focuses on the urbanization of rural communities while maintaining sustainability, aligns closely with TPDCo.’s mandate to enhance Jamaica’s tourism product and promote sustainable development across the island.
During his remarks, Mr. Mars took the opportunity to acknowledge the legacy of past Miss Universe Jamaica representatives, including Yendi Phillips, Kaci Fennell, and Davina Bennett. “These extraordinary women have not only captured the beauty and grace of our island but have also been incredible cultural ambassadors, showcasing the depth and richness of Jamaican culture to audiences around the world,” he said. Mr. Mars also highlighted the importance of the Tourism Product Knowledge training provided by TPDCo to this year’s Miss Universe Jamaica contestants, emphasizing how this training equips them with the knowledge and skills to effectively represent Jamaica as global ambassadors.
As a token of TPDCo.’s support, Mr. Mars presented Miss Silvera with the TPDCo Team Jamaica Scholarship Certificate. This scholarship is awarded to individuals who demonstrate exceptional potential in promoting Jamaica’s tourism product. It offers specialized training in various aspects of the tourism industry, ensuring that recipients are well-prepared to act as ambassadors for Jamaica on the international stage. The scholarship will provide Miss Silvera with the tools and insights she needs to excel in her role, further enhancing her ability to showcase the best of Jamaica to the world.
Miss Silvera’s visit to TPDCo. gives emphasis to the collaboration between tourism and cultural ambassadorship, highlighting the critical role that beauty queens like her play in promoting Jamaica globally. As she continues her journey to the Miss Universe stage, TPDCo. and the people of Jamaica extend their best wishes for her success.
